How to wire the Rosemount™ 214C probe?

The wiring of the Rosemount™ 214C probe depends on its type (resistance or thermocouple) and configuration (single or double element).

For resistance probes (according to IEC 60751):

  • Single element (3-wire): Uses one white and two red wires.
  • Single element (4-wire): Uses two white and two red wires. For configuring a 4-wire Pt100 single element probe to a 3-wire system, connect one white wire and insulate or terminate the unused white wire. For a 2-wire system, first connect the corresponding colored wires, then connect the paired wires to the terminal.
  • Double element (3-wire): Uses two black, one yellow, two red, and one white wire.

For thermocouples:

  • Single thermocouple, 2-wire: Uses one positive (+) and one negative (-) wire.
  • Double thermocouple, 4-wire: Uses two pairs of wires, each with a positive (+) and a negative (-).

Wire colors for thermocouples vary by type (J, K, T) and standard (IEC 60584 or ASTM E230). For example, a Type J thermocouple under IEC 60584 has a black positive and white negative wire, while under ASTM E230, it has a white positive and red negative wire. Double element thermocouple probes come with shrink-wrapped wire pairs.
