How to start the STIHL MS 880 chainsaw?

To start the STIHL MS 880 chainsaw safely:

  1. Preparation and Safety: Engage the chain brake by pushing the handguard forward. Press the decompression valve button to open it. Place the machine on stable ground, ensuring the chain doesn't touch anything.
  2. Control Lever Adjustment: Simultaneously press the trigger lock and the throttle trigger to move the lever. For a cold start, place the lever in the closed choke position (l). For a hot start (engine run for at least one minute), place the lever in the start position (n).
  3. Starting: Hold the tubular handle firmly with your left hand and place your right foot in the rear handle to secure the machine. Slowly pull the starter handle until resistance is felt, then pull vigorously with a sharp tug. After the first ignition, if on choke position (l), immediately return the lever to the start position (n) and pull again until the engine starts.
  4. After Starting: Briefly activate the throttle trigger for the lever to return to the normal operating position (F) and the engine to idle. Important: Release the chain brake by pulling the handguard towards you before accelerating, to avoid clutch damage.
